Meet Your Architect

I’m K. Heather Brakefield, a licensed architect with over 24 years of experience. I have been designing, managing, and building residential and commercial spaces across the U.S. My career has taken me from hospitality and mixed-use developments to custom homes and community focused projects. I have experience solving real-world problem through practical design and people-first spaces.

I founded PlanHAUS to serve Arizona homeowners looking for clear, expert guidance on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). With new legislation expanding what’s possible, I saw a need for a design-forward, code-savvy, and community-minded approach to ADUs—something that empowers families, not just permits structures.

I studied architecture at the University of Cincinnati, where I gained hands-on experience through their cooperative education program. That foundation shaped my approach—balancing technical precision with real-world collaboration. I’m licensed in Arizona, California, and Ohio, and I’m based in Gilbert, serving clients throughout the East Valley and beyond.

For me, good architecture isn’t just about how a space looks—it’s about how it serves the people who live in it, and the community it exists within. ADUs offer a unique opportunity to support multigenerational living, aging in place, and housing flexibility—all while strengthening the fabric of our neighborhoods. That’s why I do this work.
